Join us as the Royal Air Force presents the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force with a plaque commemorating the first ten American pilots to fly with the Royal Air Force during the Battle of Britain from July to October 1940. James Normington, a former Royal Air Force Officer, will share the history of the Battle of Britain, and Dr. Douglas Lantry, Museum Historian, will speak about the all-American Eagle Squadrons, the first of which became operational in February 1941. The evening will conclude with a formal dedication of a plaque honoring the first American pilots by a representative of the Royal Air Force. You are welcome to arrive at 5:30 p.m. to visit the Eagle Squadron exhibit in the Early Years Gallery, including open-cockpit viewing of the Museum’s Hawker Hurricane Mk IIa, one of the type of aircraft flown by American pilots in the RAF.
